I’m from Azerbaijan and currently living in Minnesota. My green card application (Form I-485) is pending with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and I’ve just moved and changed my address. I’m worried about how this might affect my application and whether I need to do anything special because of the move. I’d like to know how to properly update my address, whether it will cause delays in processing, and if there’s anything I should be especially careful about.

You must notify USCIS of your new address within 10 days by filing Form AR-11 or using the online change-of-address tool.

Updating your address is important so you don’t miss any USCIS notices or requests for evidence related to your pending application. Failing to do so might lead to delays or complications, but it typically does not automatically cancel your I-485. When you update, include your receipt number for the pending case to ensure the record reflects your change.

While a change of address itself usually doesn’t affect eligibility for adjustment of status, it’s good to monitor your case carefully afterward and stay responsive to any correspondence. If you move to a different USCIS jurisdiction, your case may get transferred, which could lengthen processing times slightly. Keep copies of your address change confirmation for your records and update any other agencies as needed. Also verify that your mailing address with the United States Postal Service is correct so you don’t miss important mail. Being proactive helps avoid unnecessary issues.
