If I sponsor my spouse for a green card, how long could we be waiting?

Wait times depend on your status: U.S. citizens sponsoring a spouse usually take about 12–18 months, while Green Card holders sponsoring a spouse can take 2–4 years or more, depending on visa backlogs.

If you’re a U.S. citizen, the process for a spouse’s green card usually takes around a year to a year and a half; if you’re a Green Card holder, it can stretch to a few years depending on visa backlogs and where your spouse is applying from.

USCIS has a lot of backlogs right now so it may take a while. If may be faster if you are a U.S. citizen though.
