If I receive a humanitarian visa such as a U visa, T visa, or VAWA approval, can I later apply for a green card? What conditions must I meet before becoming eligible for permanent residence?

Many humanitarian visa categories provide a pathway to permanent residence after meeting statutory requirements. For example, U visa holders may apply for a green card after three years of continuous presence and ongoing cooperation with law enforcement. T visa holders must also meet physical presence requirements and demonstrate continued eligibility. VAWA self-petitioners may adjust status once their immigrant petition is approved and a visa is available

Eligibility for permanent residence depends on maintaining good moral character, continuous presence, and compliance with immigration laws. Additional documentation may be required to confirm ongoing eligibility and admissibility. Each category has distinct timelines and conditions, so reviewing requirements carefully before filing for adjustment of status is important to avoid complications.
