I submitted a travel document (advance parole) while my green card application was pending, but I haven’t heard back yet. Can I travel, or will leaving the US cause problems?

You must wait until the advance parole is approved before leaving. Leaving without it can be treated as abandoning your adjustment of status application.

Check the status online. Many people get approval in a few months, but traveling too early is risky and can delay your green card.

If your travel is urgent, USCIS sometimes allows expedited processing, but you need solid proof of the emergency. Otherwise, it’s safer to wait.
