I recently received a Request for Evidence (RFE) for my employment-based visa, and it asked for additional proof of my qualifications and job duties. I’m confused because my original submission already included transcripts, certifications, and my resume. How do I know exactly what is sufficient to respond to an RFE, and what happens if I submit too little or too much information?

An RFE means the officer needs clarification or additional proof to make a decision. Submit exactly what is requested, including documentation that clearly supports your eligibility. Too little information can lead to denial, while excessive irrelevant documents may cause confusion or delay. Carefully read the notice, follow each instruction, and organize everything logically. Include a cover letter referencing each requested item to show you are addressing the RFE systematically.

Many applicants panic when they receive an RFE, but it’s not a denial. Review the notice line by line, confirm all requested items, and consider consulting an attorney if any point is unclear. Provide clear, legible evidence that directly addresses the concerns. Make copies for your records and submit everything before the deadline. Responding thoroughly and precisely demonstrates compliance and helps the officer process your case efficiently.

I once received an RFE that felt overwhelming, but creating a checklist helped me respond confidently. I included only what was specifically requested, labeled each document, and wrote a summary explaining how each item satisfied the officer’s request. The case was approved without further questions. Accuracy, clarity, and timeliness are far more important than quantity of materials. Avoid guessing; respond thoughtfully.
