I recently married a U.S. citizen while on a tourist visa. Can I stay in the U.S. and apply for a green card here, or do I need to return to my country?

If your marriage is genuine and you didn’t intend to marry when you entered, you may adjust status from within the U.S. without leaving.

USCIS may scrutinize your case more closely if the marriage occurred soon after arrival, so strong evidence is important.

Consulting an immigration attorney is wise to ensure you avoid accusations of visa fraud or misrepresentation.
