I received a Request for Evidence asking for more proof of a bona fide marriage for my I-751 case. We already submitted joint documents, and now I’m worried USCIS doesn’t believe our marriage is real. What is the best way to respond to an RFE without making things worse?

An RFE does not mean your case will be denied. USCIS often asks for additional evidence to clarify or strengthen the record. The best approach is to respond thoroughly and clearly, providing updated joint documents such as financial records, insurance, leases, photos, and affidavits. Organize your response well and explain anything that may look unusual.

This is your opportunity to tell your story more fully. Include a brief cover letter explaining your relationship history and addressing the officer’s concerns directly. Quality matters more than quantity, so focus on documents that clearly show shared life and responsibilities.

I received an RFE and felt discouraged, but after submitting strong evidence and explanations, my case was approved. Many successful cases go through this step. Just make sure to meet the deadline and respond honestly.
