I missed my immigration court date because I never received notice. What can I do?

If you missed your hearing due to lack of proper notice, you may file a motion to reopen your case. You must demonstrate that notice was not properly served to your correct address. Supporting documentation, including proof of address and mail records, strengthens your request. If approved, the removal order may be rescinded and your case reopened for further proceedings.

Timeliness is important when filing a motion to reopen. If the court finds that notice was properly sent, reopening becomes more difficult. Keeping your address updated with immigration authorities is essential. Reviewing the court file to determine how notice was issued can clarify whether reopening is legally viable.
