I entered the U.S. on a B-2 visa, but I want to start studying. Can I apply to change my status to F-1 without leaving the U.S.?

Yes, you can apply to USCIS to change status, but it must be done before your B-2 expires.

Processing can take months, so you might not be able to start classes right away.

Many people prefer leaving and re-entering with an F-1 visa for faster results.

If denied, you must leave the U.S. immediately to avoid unlawful presence.
