I applied for asylum in 2019 and my case is still pending. I have a work permit but the waiting is mentally exhausting. I worry that something is wrong because it’s been so many years. Is this kind of delay normal and is there anything I can do to move things along?

Unfortunately, long waits are very common with asylum cases. Backlogs are huge and many people wait five years or more. A long wait doesn’t mean your case is weak.

You can check whether your case is with USCIS or immigration court because options depend on where it is. In some cases you can request expedited processing if there are strong humanitarian reasons.

Make sure you keep renewing your work permit on time and always update your address with USCIS. A lot of people miss important notices simply because they moved and forgot to update their information.
