I applied for asylum almost two years ago and I still have not had an interview. My work permit is about to expire soon. Can I renew it while the asylum case is still pending

Yes, people with pending asylum applications are generally allowed to renew their work permits as long as the asylum case is still active. You can file for renewal several months before the current card expires. As long as the application is properly filed, many applicants also receive an automatic extension of the current work permit while the renewal is being processed.

You can continue renewing your employment authorization while the asylum application remains pending. It is important to file the renewal early to avoid gaps in work authorization. Processing times vary, so submitting the renewal application well before the expiration date can help reduce the chance of interruptions in your ability to work.
