Marriage fraud has severe and lasting consequences. A finding of fraud not only leads to denial or revocation of a green card, but also creates a permanent bar to future immigration benefits. Even if you later enter into a bona fide marriage, you may not be able to immigrate through that spouse. Additionally, fraud findings can make you ineligible for waivers, adjustment of status, and even certain humanitarian forms of relief.

A U.S. citizen or permanent resident who knowingly engages in or assists with a fraudulent marriage can face criminal charges, including up to 5 years in prison and significant fines. They may also lose their ability to sponsor future family members and face reputational or legal consequences.
