While you cannot directly extend the F-1 visa stamp from within the U.S., you can extend your F-1 student status by obtaining a program extension through your school’s Designated School Official. If you need more time to complete your studies, the DSO will update your Form I-20 to reflect the new program end date. To renew your F-1 visa stamp, you must apply for a new visa at a U.S. embassy or consulate outside the U.S.
