Hi everyone, my name is Samira. I came to the U.S. on a student visa, but I I'll soon be marrying my boyfriend who is a U.S. citizen. I'm a bit confused about what steps to take next. Do I need to leave the country to apply for a green card, or can I adjust my status while staying in the U.S.? Any advice would be really appreciated!

You can apply for a green card through adjustment of status without leaving the U.S. Just make sure your marriage is legal and file Form I-485 after your wedding.

You can apply to adjust your status in the U.S.

No need to leave. Just be sure to marry first, then file Form I-485. Best of luck!

No need to leave. Once you’re married, you can apply to adjust your status from within the U.S. Just be sure your visa hasn’t expired.
