Can someone on an H-1B visa apply for permanent residency while still working on H-1B status?

Yes, many H-1B workers pursue a green card through employment sponsorship.

Having a green card application doesn’t cancel H-1B status, since it’s a “dual intent” visa.

Some workers remain on H-1B until their I-140 is approved, then adjust status later.
