Some dependent visa holders, like H-4 spouses of H-1B holders, can apply for a work permit if eligible.

Others, like F-2 dependents of students, are not allowed to work.

It depends on the visa type, some dependent visas like H-4 (with approved EAD) or L-2 allow work, while others like F-2 do not permit employment.
