You can work in the U.S. while your asylum case is pending, but only after you have applied for and received a work permit (EAD) from USCIS, which you can request 150 days after filing your asylum application and receive no earlier than 180 days, as long as you haven’t caused delays in your case.

While your asylum case is pending, you can work legally only if you obtain an EAD from USCIS, which you can request after 150 days and receive after 180 days without delays.
