Can I open an LLC while on an F1 STEM OPT visa and employ myself, and then file for a H1B through that LLC? My friend who is a citizen can take care of the operations. You can start an llc on STEM OPT, but working for yourself might not be valid employment for OPT. To get an H1B through your own llc, the company has to show it's in control of your job, which is hard if you're the owner. You should talk to a lawyer
