After years of building a life together, a major change has finally happened in our family. My husband recently became a U.S. green card holder, and we are now trying to understand how that affects my own ability to move and live with him in the United States. We are legally married and want to avoid delays or mistakes that could keep us apart longer than necessary. What immigration process applies to spouses of green card holders, how long does it usually take, and what steps should we begin right away to reunite legally?

As the spouse of a green card holder, you fall under the family based F2A category. Your husband can file Form I-130 on your behalf to start the process. Approval allows you to continue with consular processing from Turkey.

The F2A category is subject to visa availability, so waiting times can vary. You will need to attend a visa interview at a U.S. consulate once a visa number becomes available. Marriage evidence and financial sponsorship will be reviewed carefully. Staying patient and organized is important.

If your husband later becomes a U.S. citizen, your case could move faster. Speaking with an immigration attorney can help you avoid delays and prepare strong documentation.
