After moving from Iraq to Utah a few months ago, I’m realizing how uncertain my future feels here. My visa is temporary, but things back home are unstable, and I’m afraid to return. Is there any way for me to apply for protection or stay in the U.S. legally?

You may qualify to apply for asylum if returning to Iraq would put you at risk. It’s best to act quickly since asylum applications usually have a one-year filing deadline.

If you fear persecution or danger in Iraq, asylum or Temporary Protected Status (TPS) might be options. Both require proving specific conditions and submitting proper evidence. Consulting an immigration attorney will help you understand which category fits your case.

Don’t wait until your visa expires. The earlier you file for protection, the stronger your chances of remaining legally in the U.S.
