I am originally from Botswana and currently working in Mississippi on a company-sponsored visa. My employer now wants to transfer me to their office in Los Angeles, California. I’m unsure what immigration steps are required to make this transition legally, especially since the role and location will change. Do I need to update my visa information, file a new petition, or get approval from USCIS before I can begin working in Los Angeles?

Yes, your employer must notify USCIS and file the proper paperwork before you change your work location. You cannot start the new job in Los Angeles until immigration approval is confirmed.

Your employer likely needs to file an amended petition to update your job location and ensure compliance with immigration rules.

Location changes can affect wage requirements and job conditions, so USCIS must review the update. Your employer should submit all necessary documents as soon as possible. Make sure you keep a copy of every update related to your visa. Do not move or start working in Los Angeles until everything is officially approved.
