Having spent years traveling across Africa for work and personal exploration, I’m now back in Bulgaria and seriously considering relocating to the United States for the next 5–10 years. I have no criminal record, a university degree, and professional experience in international business. What visa options would allow me to live and work in the U.S. legally, and what should I be aware of in terms of timelines, eligibility, and potential challenges?

Given your background, a common option is an employment-based visa such as the H-1B if you can secure a U.S. employer willing to sponsor you. Another possibility is the EB-2 or EB-3 green card categories for skilled professionals, although these require meeting specific education and experience criteria.

You may also explore investor visas like the E-2 if you plan to start or invest in a U.S. business. Each option has different processing times and documentation requirements, so professional guidance is strongly recommended.

Since you have no criminal history and significant international experience, your eligibility for U.S. visas is generally favorable. Temporary work visas, permanent employment-based green cards, or even student visas if you plan further education could be viable paths. You should carefully consider the timing, as some visa categories have long waitlists, especially from Bulgaria.
